Mid-length

A mid-length asks for 55 to 68 per cent of your weight in litres: roughly 44 to 54 litres at 176 lb (80 kg). Useful lengths run 6'6" to 8'0", and at 5'9" of height the natural size is 7'5".

It is the most underrated board in the catalogue. It paddles like a big board, fits real waves and holds a mid level for years without falling short. Plenty of surfers with a decade in the water go back to a mid-length and find they surf more waves and tire less.

The trap is length: a mid-length too long for your height becomes impossible to turn and ends up in the garage.

Who it is for

Anyone catching green waves but not consistently, and anyone coming back to the water after years away. Also whoever wants one board for everything.

Who it is not for

Anyone learning to turn tight. A mid-length forgives so much that it hides what your bottom turn is missing.

Which waves

Almost anything up to five feet. Its home is the average day.
